This medicine will not prevent heartburn or heart surgery, unless your doctor has told you to do so. This medicine reduces stomach acid and may also protect against heartburn and other conditions that may cause stomach or esophageal ulcers.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow the medicine as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Dosage

The usual dose is one 20mg capsule twice a day. The maximum recommended dose is one 30mg capsule three times a day, taken 3 to 4 times a day, and for 1 week. If the ulcer develops or gets worse, the dose may be reduced to one 30mg capsule three times a day. Nexium may be used along with your doctor's advice to control your symptoms. Nexium (Esomeprazole) may also be used for the prevention of stomach ulcers caused by age-related changes of the gut microbiome.
